Harpo Foundation is pleased to support Lustre, a large-scale sculptural installation in New Orleans by Canadian artist Michel De Broin. Lustre will be mobile and comprised of discarded streetlamps of various kinds that the artist will refurbish and re-wire, weld together, and suspend from a crane like a chandelier (a lustre in French) to light up the night sky. The transient nature of the piece and the uprooted streetlamps will engage directly with the community in which the work is situated, evoking the Citys history as well as the traumatic events of Hurricane Katrina and the coming together of communities in its aftermath.
